Freddie Freeman accomplished one of the biggest achievements there is in the baseball world, equalling a Babe Ruth career record. The Dodgers supertstar hit his career's 506th double in a game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday that brought out a reaction from his wife Chelsea.
The Dodgers 1B hit three times during Wednesday's game, sandwiching a double in the fifth in between two singles in the fourth and eighth innings. His double came off an 0-2, 95 mph fastball pitch by Marlins starter Ryan Weathers.
Freddie's wife, Chelsea, reacted to the achievement. She retweeted a post with a single 'mind-blown' emoji reaction.
Freddie Freeman's contact hitting prowess is indeed mind-blowing. This was the infielder's 33rd double of the season. This is the MLB 10th season where he has at least 30 doubles. In the previous two seasons, he led the league with 59 and 47 doubles, respectively.
His 506 doubles puts him 59th on the all-time list and the only active player inside the top 100. The 34-year-old also has the most doubles for any player since 2007.
He was the 10th fastest to reach 500 doubles when he got that in a game against the Phillies last month. It was just his second game back from a family leave after his son Max was admitted to the ICU.
“It’s hard to put into words what the Dodger fans have meant to us and our family in the toughest times,” Freeman said after the game. “It shows the true character of this organization’s fans, and it’s absolutely incredible.”
Freddie Freeman's current hitting streak important to Dodgers
Freddie Freeman currently has a five-game hitting streak. Wednesday's three-hit game was the first multi-hit outing during that stretch. After being pushed to the four-hole behind Teoscar Hernandez in the lineup, the 2020 NL MVP has done considerably well going 5-for-12 with a three-run home run.
The Dodgers need all of their star players to be firing as they look to end the regular season on a high. Currently with a 90-62 record, LA has been hot and cold winning seven out of their its past 14 games.
