Aaron Boone returned to the New York Yankees dugout after a minor confrontation with home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt. However, it was not long after Boone returned to the dugout that he found himself ejected from the matchup against the Oakland Athletics.

Wendelstedt heard some shouting, and likely foul words, coming from the direction of the New York Yankees dugout. Unfortunately for Boone, the home plate umpire decided that it was the Yankees manager who was shouting at him when it was coming from a fan seated behind the home team's dugout.

"Funniest ejection of the modern era," MLB analyst Jared Carrabis said of the incident. Boone's departure from the game was truly something that had not been seen before. For baseball fans, who don't support the New York Yankees, the incident undoubtedly led to a plethora of laughs.

Given the ongoing debate about the current state of MLB umpires, Hunter Wendelstedt's decision to toss Boone from Monday's game will only add fuel to the fire.

Names like Angel Hernandez have already sparked controversy this season, so Aaron Boone's ejection is just the latest in an ever-growing list of umpire blunders.

There's no guarantee that had Boone not been ejected the Yankees would have been able to turn things around during Monday's game, but it will certainly spark further debate.

Starter Carlos Rodon delivered an excellent 7.0 inning game for the Yankees, but the lineup was limited to only four hits.
