Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Gavin Stone is unlikely to return in the 2024 season after he underwent right shoulder surgery on Oct. 9, the team announced on Saturday. According to the Dodgers, Stone is likely to miss the remainder of this season and is also likely to miss the entire 2025 season.

The Dodgers announced the news through their official X (formerly Twitter) page. Although not many details were shared about the procedure, it was revealed that the surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

“Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Gavin Stone had right-shoulder surgery on October 9 performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. He will likely be out all of the 2025 season,” the LA Dodgers wrote on X.

Gavin Stone was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sept. 6 due to right shoulder inflammation. The 25-year-old was hoping to return to the Dodgers for the playoffs but couldn't begin his throwing program as planned because of ongoing shoulder issues.

He was eventually moved to the 60-day injured list on Sept. 24, ending his hopes of returning for the 2024 season. The move was partly to make space for Edgardo Henriquez on the Dodgers' 40-man roster. Henriquez was later placed on the active roster after Ben Casparius was optioned to the minors.

Henriquez was added to the Dodgers' playoff roster for the National League Division Series. Ben Casparius also returned to the team replacing Michael Grove, who was injured before Game 4 of the series.

Gavin Stone's absence adds to the Dodgers' pitching woes as the club prepares to start the NLCS against the Mets

Gavin Stone was a key part of the LA Dodgers' rotation, finishing the season with an 11-5 record, a 3.53 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP in 25 starts. Stone’s absence is a significant loss for the Dodgers’ 2025 starting rotation.

Many of the Dodgers' pitchers who are sidelined due to injuries and missing the 2024 playoffs are expected to return next year, including Bobby Miller, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May and Clayton Kershaw. Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani is also scheduled to pitch in the 2025 season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won their best-of-five NLDS against the San Diego Padres in five games. The club is now set to begin their best-of-seven National League Championship Series against the New York Mets.

The Dodgers are scheduled to open the series with the Mets on Sunday at Dodger Stadium.
