Buster Posey was an integral part of the three championships the San Francisco Giants clinched in the 2010s. He has been named the 2012 NL MVP and a seven-time All-Star. Fast forward to today, and he has a bigger task when it comes to recapturing the old magic of his beloved club, being its president of baseball operations.

Minted as the latest executive of the Giants on Sept. 30, 2024, Buster Posey, on the TK Show on 95.7 The Game hosted by Tim Kawakami, discussed the team's chances in the heavily stacked National League West. It features the champions Dodgers, the star-studded Padres and the recently bolstered Diamondbacks.

"As a competitor, you want to face the best," Posey said. "There's no doubt in my mind that the NL West is the best division in baseball," he added. (22:36 onwards)
"With the amount of talent that the other teams possess, you just have to look at it as an opportunity to be battle-tested throughout the year."

Buster Posey has his work cut out, as the Giants have only made two postseason appearances since 2015. They have finished dead-last once and ranked fourth and third three-times each in the past decade.

Buster Posey exudes optimism about the Giants

When asked about the competition in the National League West and the Giants' chances to clinch a postseason spot, president of baseball operations Buster Posey placed his faith on the team:

"We've all watched sports, and that's what we love about it. You never know until you go and play on the field and see how it shapes out.
"I just think back to our team in 2021. If anybody told you that team was going to win 107 games, they would have laughed right in your face and not felt bad about it whatsoever. I'm very optimistic with the guys that we have on our roster that they can put a great product on the field."

Posey was referring to the surprise the Giants had produced in 2021 when they won the division with 107 regular-season victories.

With the addition of Willy Adames and veteran Justin Verlander, it will be interesting to see how San Francisco handles the looming threat of the three other contenders in their division in 2025.
