Mike Trout had a devastating end to his MLB season, as he announced requiring surgery in his left miniscus. Nevertheless Los Angeles Angels GM Perry Minaisian was optimistic about the 11x All-Star's big return in 2025, but fans have a different opinion.

Mike Trout had a strong start to the 2024 season, raking up 10 home runs in 29 games at an OPS of .867. He led the home run charts as well, ahead of Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani, before sustaining an injury against the Boston Red Sox and underwent surgery on May 3.

After nearly three months on the shelf, the three-time AL MVP made a return in a rehab assignment with Triple-A affiliate Salt Lake Bees but had to be taken off after just three innings. He was expected to return to running by this week but was eventually shut down again and underwent an MRI, which showed a second tear in his miniscus.

Angels GM Minaisian said that Mike Trout will have a record-breaking season in 2025.

"My call is he hits 70 homers and wins the MVP. Looking at his face, he might have the best year he's ever had next year," Minaisian said.

Fans diasgreed, though, majorly because if Trout has to hit 70 home runs, he will have to play a full season, which he has been unable to do in the last four.

"Going to be an amazing 17 games," one fan wrote.
"That’ll be hard to do in half a season," another fan wrote along the same lines.
"That’s like saying the Angels will win the World Series next season," a fan joked.
"He's hit 76 in the last 4 years, combined," a fan wrote.
"He has the optimism of an 8 year old," a fan said about Minasian.

Mike Trout - the GOAT who wasn't to be?

Mike Trout is the sole player in the MLB who has come close to being called the greatest of all time in the last decade. From his first full season in 2012 until 2020, the Angels superstar had finished in the top-four MVP rankings each year. He had 302 home runs by the time he was 28.

However, the promise of being the best ever has watered away, as Trout has averaged only 66.5 games since 2021. With regular injuries, it's unlikely he will ever have a full season to match his previous success.
