According to MLB insider Brian McTaggart, the Houston Astros have reached an agreement with Jason Heyward. The veteran outfielder did not have to wait long to find himself a new home after being released by the LA Dodgers and clearing waivers on Monday.
Jason Heyward now finds himself on another postseason contender which has been looking to add outfield depth. Even though the Astros are bringing in a Gold Glove outfielder who could help them in the postseason, fans of the club are not exactly celebrating in the streets over the signing.

While Heyward has made a living with his glove, his performances at the plate leave something to be desired. Although injuries have limited Heyward to only 63 games this season with the Dodgers, he has not exactly been tearing the cover off the ball.
In his limited action, the veteran outfielder has posted a .208 batting average with six home runs, 28 RBIs and a .682 OPS.

It remains to be seen how much of a role Heyward will have with the Astros but given their struggles in the outfield this season, it was not surprising to see them sign the former All-Star.
The Jason Heyward addition could have significant implications when it comes to Kyle Tucker
While there is a chance that Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown is simply adding Jason Heyward to help bolster the club's outfield depth, it could also be related to the ongoing Kyle Tucker situation.
The Astros' superstar outfielder has been sidelined since July 7 after sustaining a bruised right shin. Many expected Tucker's injury to require a minimum stint on the IL; however, he has not yet started a minor league rehab assignment.
Based on Kyle Tucker's surprisingly slow recovery from his injury, the Astros have likely turned to Heyward to fill in until there is significant progress.
