Jackson Holliday has been red hot ever since he was recalled by the Baltimore Orioles for his second stint in the major leagues. The No. 1 overall pick from the 2022 draft is certainly living up to the billing after a disappointing start to his MLB career. On Wednesday, the 20-year-old set a new American League record as the youngest player to hit a home run in three consecutive games.
His achievement garnered praise not only from the Orioles fans but also from supporters of other teams.
When he made his MLB debut in April this year, Jackson Holliday had struggled to make a mark in the big leagues after managing two hits in his first 10 games before he was sent back to the minors. Holliday returned to the team at the end of July, and he marked his comeback by smashing his maiden major league home run.
On Sunday, Holliday hit the second home run of his career, and he got one more in the next game when the Baltimore Orioles took on the Toronto Blue Jays two days later for the opening encounter of a three-game series.
The Orioles were trailing the Blue Jays 3-2 at Rogers Center in the seventh inning when Jackson Holliday hit a 424-foot shot over the right field fence into the second deck to put his team into a game-winning lead.
Fans took to social media to applaud Jackson Holliday as he was showered with plaudits for his record-setting achievement on X.
"Hall of fame coming up for this guy," one fan posted.
"He brings incredible talent and energy to the game," another fan said.
"He's gonna be something special," another fan wrote.
The applause continued to pour in for Jackson Holliday on social media.
"Get called up, struggle big time, get sent back down then start performing up to the hype when they get recalled," one fan wrote.
"Looks like we've got another rising star in the making," another fan posted.
"He can definitely help the Orioles in their postseason run," another fan noted.
At 20 years and 247 days, Holliday became the youngest player to hit three home runs in the AL and only the 16th player overall to do so before his 21st birthday.
Hot run for Jackson Holliday since making his return for the Orioles
Following his unimpressive initial spell in April, Jackson Holliday has been swinging a hot bat after he was recalled by the Baltimore Orioles last month. He has batted .375/.444/.917 since July 31 with five extra base hits, including four home runs and 10 RBIs.
Holliday spoke to reporters after his record-breaking game on Wednesday.
“I think it’s awesome to be able to just get hits and be able to, like I said, help the team,” Holliday said after the game. “But yeah, they start to pile up and get a few knocks from there and been able to put some good swings on the ball lately.”
“Obviously it was a pretty important moment in the game to kind of flip the score. I think we kind of needed a little bit of momentum. We got it with that, we got it with Tony’s (Santander) catch, and then he turned around and hit another homer. Just glad to be able to help the team,” he added.
The Baltimore Orioles face the Toronto Blue Jays again on Thursday, and it will be interesting to see if Jackson Holliday can continue his streak with another home run.
