The Atlanta Braves' pitching team is facing a surprise as their star left-handed pitcher, Max Fried, has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to left forearm neuritis. Manager Brian Snitker shared information about his injury status and explained what it is and their plans for handling it.
When the All-Star went down with a forearm injury, Snitker said:
"He felt it when he was doing arm circles before he pitched at the All-Star Game,"
Snitker said before the Cardinals game that after warming up for a scheduled appearance in the All-Star game, Fried felt some discomfort. Despite feeling something in his forearm, he pitched in the game. That raised concerns among the Braves coaching staff, prompting them to monitor Fried's condition closely.
"When he came in here Friday, he still felt something, so he wanted to get it checked out," said Brian Snitker
After the All-Star break, Fried continued to feel discomfort, prompting him for further examination, but MRI scans showed no major issues.
"It was probably the best news we could get out of the MRI," Snitker remarked
"It’s probably a best-case scenario. He’s gonna have to miss a little time. Nothing showed on the MRI or anything. we are just going to put him down until he’s asymptomatic and he’ll start throwing again." he added
The Braves' focus now shifts to managing Fried's recovery before he resumes throwing without jeopardizing his health.
Atlanta Braves rotation is in flux with Max Fried on injured list
For at least 15 days there will be a temporary change in the Atlanta Braves' starting rotation, as their ace Max Fried heads to the injured list.
The Braves have some possible options to cover while Fried is out. Dylan Lee who has just come from Triple-A and might be taken into consideration. Rookie Bryce Elder could also make an appearance. Both pitchers have potential but lack the consistency and experience of Max Fried.
The Braves, leading the National League East, will rely on their pitching depth to navigate this temporary hurdle as they look to stay atop their division and maintain their championship aspirations.
