Jackson Holliday is enjoying a far better second stint in the majors following his dismal 2-for-34 record earlier in the season. From waiting for his time to get back in the majors to being an integral part of the clubhouse, the 2022 MLB first-overall pick has come a long way.
Discussing clubhouse chatter on "Foul Territory," the infielder was asked if he was involved in jokes with his teammates. Holliday denied any such involvement but mentioned one name who was into such things.
"No, no, I don't, I don't make any jokes like that. [Colten] Cowser will make high school jokes like, 'Hey Gunnar, what did you hit in high school?' or something like that, but Cowser is a kind of an instigator," Holliday said.
The Orioles are a relatively young team filled with emerging prospects like Jackson Holliday and Gunnar Henderson and are making a statement against big-market teams this year.
Jackson Holliday comes close to breaking O's legend's record
On Friday against the Boston Red Sox, Jackson Holliday continued his terrific at-bats, going 4-5, including three singles and a triple. With this, Holliday became the second-youngest player in Orioles history to have four hits in a single game. At 20 years and 256 days old, Holliday achieved this feat.
The first among all Orioles hitters is Brooks Robinson, who had his first four-hit game at the age of 20 years and 130 days old.
“That’s quite something. Obviously, very special to be able to share that with him. Hopefully, many more in the future,” Holliday said upon learning about the record.
Despite Holliday's efforts, the Orioles lost the game against the Red Sox 12-10. The run-fest saw winning contributions from Jarren Duran (1 HR), Rafael Devers (1 HR, 3 RBIs), Masataka Yoshida (1 HR, 4 RBIs) and David Hamilton (1 HR, 2 RBIs).
Regardless, the Orioles can be content knowing their star prospect has finally had a good run and that his at-bats will be valuable during the postseason.
