Los Angeles Dodgers fans are finding out that there isn't much Shohei Ohtani can't do, as the superstar slugger has put together an MVP-calibre season in his first year with the team.
While Ohtani joined the elite 40-40 club with a grand slam on Friday, becoming the first Dodgers to reach the milestone, the Japanese phenom was seen practicing his pitches from the mound on Saturday.
This was the first time the Dodgers' $700 million acquisition was seen practicing his throws from the mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery toward the end of last season.
Fans reacted to Ohtani's first bullpen session for the Dodgers this season.
"He must be stopped. He's allowed to bat, but only with the bat upside down, or while doing a handstand."
"Bro gonna go 50/50 and throw 100mph. Life is good for Ohtani," wrote a fan.
"Love to see Shohei back on the mound. Is there a chance he will pitch this year?" quizzed a fan.
Meanwhile, several fans were concerned with the sighting and hope that the Dodgers aren't rushing back Ohtani after his elbow surgery in September last year.
"I get it he and others wanna see him pitch again but perhaps hold off on that until next season, focus on the hitting stuff, last thing he and dodgers need is for something to go wrong," urged a fan.
"They shouldn’t even risk using him as a pitcher tbh," wrote another fan.
"Idk maybe he should just play OF with the way he’s going off this season, possible the pitching hindered his hitting a bit."
Shohei Ohtani goes deep to help Dodgers take the lead on Saturday
Following a historic grand slam against the Tampa Bay Rays in the series opener on Friday, Shohei Ohtani added another home run to his NL-leading tally on Saturday.
The Dodgers were trailing after a four-run blast from the Rays in the first inning. However, Teoscar Hernandez's two-run homer in the fourth was followed by a two-run shot from Shohei Ohtani in the fifth, taking his home run tally to 41 for the season.
At the time of writing, the Dodgers came from behind to lead 7-6 by the end of the eighth inning.
