Manager Carlos Mendoza's move to start Tyrone Taylor in the two-hole worked on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The right fielder contributed three RBIs, including a bases-clearing double in the fifth. The Mets won 6-0 at Busch Stadium.

Centerfielder Harrison Bader who has played in a similar position this season, found the move a "genius" from the manager. Bader thinks there's no one better than Taylor to play that spot.

“The game called on Tyrone (Taylor) to step up in that situation,” Bader told reporters after the game. “Mendy looks like a genius in that. I think he picked the right guy for the job in that given situation.”
“I’ve been in that 2 hole a couple times this year,” he said. “It’s a dynamic lineup in the sense that you can plug in a lot of guys in different spots. Obviously being in the lineup, situations are presented to you differently but overall your intention is the same, which is execute on whatever you’re seeing in front of you based on whatever the pitcher’s attacking you with.”

Elevating Tyrone Taylor was not the only move made by Carlos Mendoza in the road game. He also dropped first baseman Pete Alonso from the cleanup spot to fifth place. On Monday, Alonso went 1-3, scoring one run.

Sean Manaea and Tyrone Taylor lead Mets to lone road game win

The Mets were at Busch Stadium to play only one game before they headed out to Coors Field for their series against the Colorado Rockies.

Against the Cardinals, the Mets excelled in both departments. Starter Sean Manaea went deep, pitching seven scoreless innings to earn the win. Bullpen pitchers Ryne Stanek and Edwin Diaz also didn't let loose to complete the shutout.

In the hitting front, apart from Tyrone Taylor's three RBIs, a homer from Jeff McNeil and an RBI hit by Harrison Bader helped the Mets score six runs to clinch the game.

With the win, the Mets improved to 59-53. They next play the Rockies in a three-game series on the road.
