"He’s in that conversation for sure" - Jeff Passan says Paul Skenes would be one of his choices to pitch Game 7 of the World Series

Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Paul Skenes has been nothing short of dominant since making his MLB debut on May 11. He has pitched in four games, compiling a 2-0 record with a 2.45 ERA on 22 innings of work.

His high-velocity fastball and incredible secondary pitches have played well in the big leagues. Much like in the minors, he has had no problems striking opposing batters out.

He has tossed 30 strikeouts thus far, making batters look foolish. He has pitched so well that MLB insider Jeff Passan would pencil him in as his choice to pitch in a Game 7 of the World Series. He made the comments on a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show.

"Oh yeah, he's in the conversation, for sure. I think he is already one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball," - said Passan.

Those are strong words from a guy who has seen plenty of elite pitchers make their way to the league. But it is not just Skenes' stuff on the mound that has impressed Passan, it is how he carries himself out there.

"It's the stuff, yes, but the attitude he has out there on the mound. I mean, he looks like a dude who's been doing this for five years" - said Passan.

Paul Skenes shined during his latest start against the Detroit Tigers

While a few fans thought Paul Skenes' armor would start cracking against a hard-hitting Detroit Tigers team, that did not happen. He dominated Detroit on Wednesday, collecting his second win.

Wednesday also marked his 22nd birthday, and he made the most out of it. He tossed six strong innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out nine batters.

Skenes' splinker was extremely effective on Wednesday. It is a pitch that has gained recognition over the years with many pitchers adding it to their repertoire, being a mix of a split-finger fastball, and a sinker.

Afterward, Aroldis Chapman, Colin Holderman, and David Bednar were able to keep Detroit at bay. They ended up winning the game 10-2, improving their record to 26-30 while the Tigers dropped to 27-28.

Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates will not get ready to take on the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. The two clubs play a three-game series over the weekend, and then the Buccos take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
