Jazz Chisholm Jr. has had an electric start to his New York Yankees career. On Monday, the utility player hit a pair of home runs against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 14-4 victory in his second game. The offensive addition to the batting lineup has earned some praise from Yankees captain Aaron Judge.
In the post-game interviews, Judge mentioned the energy the former Marlins utility player brought with him.
"It is impressive man. It is fun to watch. He is electric, he is excited to be here, he is having fun. He's definitely making a big impact so far," Judge said (via ESPN).
The Yankees traded Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins, knowing they needed a power at-bat to support Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. The center fielder, who also has experience as an infielder, was batting at .249 before making the switch, which seemed like decent numbers.
Chisholm seems to have left his stats at the Marlins behind and started off fresh. Playing as a third baseman, he reached base three times on Monday. In the second innings, he hit a flyball to left field on the first pitch against Phillies starter Zack Wheeler. The ball just went above the fence for a 348-foot home run. He repeated the feat in the ninth innings for his first multi-homer game in the pinstripes.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. used Aaron Judge's bat to hit 2nd homer
Before the ninth inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. exchanged his bat for his captain's. The result was good as he struck a home run on a 65 mph pitch by Phillies catcher Garrett Stubbs, who was pitching to save a bullpen arm. However, for Jazz, once is enough, as he reckons Judge's bat is too much for him.
"Definitely not gonna use that again tomorrow, that bat was so heavy!" Jazz said.
The Yankees will expect not just Chisholm but the rest of the lineup to keep firing. In a quick turnaround, the Bronx Bombers have hit 40 runs in their last four games. With Giancarlo Stanton back, Aaron Judge and co are looking a lot more formidable.
