It was not the start to his MLB career that Baltimore Orioles top prospect Jackson Holliday had envisioned. As one of the most promising prospects in recent years, many believed that Holliday would be an instant impact player the moment he earned a shot in the majors...this did not turn out to be the case.

Instead of becoming a lightning rod for the Baltimore Orioles, Jackson Holliday looked nothing like the top prospect who slugged his way through the minor leagues. The talented infielder looked like a shell of himself, posting a dismal 0.059 batting average over 10 games in the majors, leading to his demotion back to Triple-A.
Although Holliday has yet to return to the MLB, as well as gaining a few doubters, this is not the sentiment shared by MLB analyst Jim Callis. Callis, who covers baseball from MLB.com and MLBPipeline.com, believes that despite Holliday's massively disappointing first stint in the majors, he is still considered a top prospect moving forward.
In a recent discussion with Steve Melewski of MASN, Jim Callis shared his thoughts on Holliday's struggles and his mental strength to overcome his tough start. "He knows what it’s all about and he’s mature beyond his years," Callis said of the Orioles infielder, attributing his family's baseball experience as a reason why he can bounce back.
"Do you think Jackson Holliday has a role in the 2024 Baltimore Orioles down the stretch? Personally, I think we see him back up with an opportunity to be on the postseason team" - @zachbollinger18
Callis also mentioned how he believed that Holliday could have seen an extended run with a different team, however, given the position where the Orioles find themselves, they could not wait around. "Other teams may have given him longer to snap out of it," Callis said, clarifying that Baltimore is a contender and is looking to win now.
Jackson Holliday could still find himself promoted before the end of the season
Even though Jackson Holliday remains with Triple-A Norfolk, there is a chance that the former first-overall pick could still earn another shot with the Orioles this season. It remains unclear when that could be, however, if he can perform at Triple-A, he could force the issue.
Aside from playing well, Holliday finds himself in competition with a number of other top prospects itching for a shot with the big club. Holliday will not only need to perform but will also need to compete against the likes of Coby Mayo for the next infield opportunity in the MLB. It might be a long road, but not impossible for Holliday to be back in the majors this season.
