During the 2008 season, Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon and GM Ed Wade were not seeing eye-to-eye. The hard-throwing righty was demoted to the bullpen that year and was upset about it.

Ahead of a game with the Texas Rangers, he and Wade got into an argument. The argument turned physical, which resulted in his indefinite suspension.

Chacon realized what he did was wrong, but was still critical of Wade. Without directly blaming Wade, Chacon pointed the finger at him for what transpired that evening, via The Chron's Jose De Jesus Ortiz.

"He started yelling and cussing. I'm sitting there, and I said to him very calmly, 'Ed, you need to stop yelling at me. Then I stood up and said, 'You better stop yelling at me,'" Chacon said.

It was at this point that Chacon lost his cool. Things escalated to a point where they should not have.

"I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him, because at that point I wanted to beat his (behind)," Chacon said.

Chacon did not have much of a leash with the Astros. He was signed to a one-year deal, and the club was ready to move on from him after this incident.

This incident largely impacted Shawn Chacon's career. Astros owner Drayton McLane defended Ed Wade in this situation, leading to the club releasing him.

"You can't defy authority. Even if he disagreed with what they wanted him to do, he should have had the courage to sit down and talk to him" McLane said.

The very next day, Chacon was placed on waivers. After clearing waivers, the $983,607 salary the Astros were paying him was terminated.

Chacon did not find another team that year, and did not pitch for the remainder of the season. He then signed a one-year deal with the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League.

He pitched well with the Bears, earning him a minor-league contract with the Oakland Athletics. He made 14 appearances in Triple-A, earning an 8-4 record with a 6.29 ERA.

That would be his last season in professional baseball. That October, he was arrested on charges related to unpaid gambling markers. However, he was quickly extradited after the authorities decided not to pursue the case.

To this day, Shawn Chacon's rough 2004 outing still ranks as one of the worst seasons a closer has had in MLB history.
