The New York Yankees honored their 2009 World Series-winning stars at the 76th Old-Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. Yankees icon and former captain Derek Jeter was one of the biggest names to attend the yearly event.

Jeter's former teammate and another Yankees legend, Alex Rodriguez, also marked his presence at the celebratory event for the first time since his retirement. Jeter poked fun at A-Rod during an interview when Rodriguez was asked about when he last wore Yankees pinstripes.

Jeter interrupted before A-Rod could answer the question, saying:

"He wears it at home all the time."

The panel, including A-Rod, broke into laughter after Jeter's witty jibe. He responded:

"I think I do."

Alex Rodriguez, making his first appearance at the Old-Timers' Day, expressed his surprise at getting the invitation.

“I was actually surprised that I got an invitation — honored, honored,” Rodriguez said. “Very happy, I told my daughter right away. It’s a great thrill.”

Derek Jeter denies allegations of calling off Old-Timers' Day game

Rumors have been swirling about the Old-Timers' Day game being scrapped due to the influence of Derek Jeter. The celebratory game has been replaced by a Q&A session since the pandemic, and the former Yankees captain claimed he had nothing to do with it.

"I don’t make those decisions, contrary to your belief," Jeter said. "I don’t make those decisions when it comes to whether there’s a game or not. So why are you asking me? You can direct [that question] to Hal [Steinbrenner]."

While Jeter denied his involvement, the five-time World Series winner does not want any part of it even if the Yankees resumed the tradition.

“They’re not gonna see me hit again. No, I would be afraid I would hurt myself,” Jeter said.

Meanwhile, Derek Jeter's former teammate CC Sabathia couldn't be more excited to show off his renowned pitches, even for a softball game.

“My cutter is ready," Sabathia said. "Well, it’s ready for these guys. I told them I wanted to play the game. We’ll see [for the future], but I think it would be fun to get these guys back out there moving around, even if it’s a softball game.”

The presence of Yankees legends at Yankee Stadium failed to inspire the team as the Bronx Bombers fell to a disappointing 9-2 loss against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.
