Anthony Volpe shot himself to New York Yankees World Series stardom with an epic performance in Game 4 against the LA Dodgers. His three-run, four-RBI night helped his team take the 11-4 win and avoided getting swept in front of their home fans.
The Yankees shortstop hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning before almost single-handedly manufacturing a run in the eighth, with a double and a stolen base. He also earned a walk in the second and scored later in the inning. His grand slam came against Dodgers reliever Daniel Hudson.
Volpe, who is a well-known Yankees fan, talked about what the organization meant to his family during the postgame presser. The Manhattan-born player shared a special story about how his paternal grandfather treasured "listening" to Yankees game broadcasts almost 75 years back.
“My grandfather really," Volpe said. "The Yankees are more than just a team or organization for him. Because his grandfather fought in World War II. He was little and by the time that he got back his mom basically told him, like, 'this is your dad.'"
"He didn't know him, didn't recognize him, and the way he says it, the way he got to know and get to know his father as he sat on his lap every single night and they listened to the Yankees together, so for him it’s more than sports."

Anthony Volpe also opened up about how it was his dream to homer at Yankee Stadium in the World Series, and that his friends and family have also rooted for him. He then said that hitting a homer came after he dreamt of winning the World Series, which he has yet to achieve with the Bombers.
“It’s my dream, but it was all my friends’ dreams, all my cousins’ dreams, probably my sister’s dream, too," Volpe said. "But winning the World Series was first and foremost, by far. Nothing else compares. So still got a lot of work to do."
The Yankees started the series needing four wins to clinch their franchise record-extending 28th title. The equation remained the same before Game 4, but they would be feeling a little better about themselves heading into Wednesday night.
