The dust finally settled in the ALCS and unfortunately, the Houston Astros were on the wrong side of the result. The defending champions were dealt another blowout loss at home by the Texas Rangers as they took game 7 and became the new pennant holders of the American League.
The pressure was certainly on the Astros as they looked to avoid a season-ending defeat at home but a poor start on the mound by starter Cristian Javier damaged their chances. The Rangers had three runs on the board with a single out in the first before Javier had to be taken off the mound.
A worse fourth inning followed for the Astros as reliever J.P. France earned four runs on five hits. That put the game well beyond the Astros' reach. They tried chasing Max Scherzer right from the start but Bruce Bochy was strong with his managerial decisions, immediately replacing the veteran starter in the third as soon as he was under pressure.
The Rangers bullpen did the rest of the job as they blew the Astros away. Meanwhile, the Rangers' fiery lineup kept pouring on the runs. Nathaniel Lowe homered in the sixth inning against reliever Bryan Abreu. This came just one out after Abreu had hit Mitch Garver in the ribs.
In the end, the Rangers won 11-4 adding to their 9-2 victory in game 6. It was a fitting finale between the two in-state rivals who couldn't be separated during the regular season with identical records.
Astros fans, however, were quite upset after the loss as they took to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their anger.
Astros' home losses define their season ending run
In a rare feat, all seven games were won by the road team in this particular series. That was symbolic of the Houston Astros' season who have been dominant on the road but failed to have any impact at Minute Maid Park. They had a 39-42 record in the regular season in Space City and throughout the postseason, they could only manage one solitary victory.
