Jeter was their postseason talisman and was aptly nicknamed "Captain Clutch". The franchise retired his jersey number 2 in 2007. It has been eight seasons since Jeter's retirement in 2014 and the Yankees are still chasing their first World Series win since 2009.
He returned to baseball as CEO of the Miami Marlins from 2017 to 2022. However, he was at loggerheads with the ownership regarding the future of the team, and consequently, relinquished his position and gave up his 4% stake in the club.
Jeter and his wife, Hannah Davis Jeter, tied the knot in St. Helena, California, on July 9, 2016.They are parents to three daughters: Bella Raine, Story Grey and River Rose.

He is now happily married to Hannah, who he started dating in 2012. They were introduced to each other by a mutual friend. Derek confirmed the news of their engagement via a blog post published in November 2015.
