Fans and collectors flocked to catch Thursday's matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds for Shohei Ohtani's bobblehead promotion. The first 40,000 fans in the gates received the two-way phenom's bobblehead.
While that was enough to make fans crazy, the organization added 1,700 special bobbleheads to be given out at random. These special bobbleheads included Ohtani wearing a gray uniform.
For those who were lucky enough to snag one, you may want to check out what some of these bobbleheads are going for. They could bring you back quite a bit of cash, according to eBay sales.
Per The Collectibles Guru, the regular bobblehead, depicting Ohtani in a blue jersey has been resold for around $250. The special gray jersey bobbleheads are going for as much as $1,299. That is quite the return for a free bobblehead. Sometimes, it pays to be a fan.
What's the deal with these Shohei Ohtani bobbleheads?
Unless you have been living under a rock over the last few years, you have noticed the boom in sports collectibles. From cards to autographs, the hobby has received a ton of attention from those getting back into it to a new generation.
Anything that even features Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani is worth collecting. He is arguably one of the greatest players to ever step between the chalk.
These bobbleheads are especially valuable considering you cannot go to a store and buy them. They were made for the promotional event. However, considering just how much of a buzz the club got from this, do not be surprised if they do something like this again.
Other teams could also do something like this, like the New York Yankees. Although, they would not generate the attention Ohtani did.
