The New York Yankees are enjoying one of their best moments of their 2024 MLB season. The Yanks swept the series against Phillies and they did that at Citizen's Bank Park. However, they did not the top of MLB's power-rankings list.
Major League Baseball often shares a list of power-ranking teams on social media. As August begins, MLB shared the top 10 power-ranking teams based on their performance over the last month.
Surprisingly, the Yankees were ranked fifth on the list. Fans were shocked to see their team at No. 5 despite sweeping the mighty Phillies in the last three games. Fans were quick to react to MLB's post on X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts.
Here's a look at some of the fan reactions on X.
"How are the Phillies still number one?" one fan said.
"The 5th team just swept the 1st team but sure," another fan said.
"How in the world are the Phillies #1?? Make it make sense," one fan said.
Comments flowed as fans continued to comment in disbelief.
"We sept the number 1 team but somehow we are at 5 (im not saying we should be 1 but we should be at 3)," one fan said.
"Yankees just swept Philly!! Get out of here with this!" another fan said.
"Phillies are 3-7 in their last 10 but still number 1," one fan said.
Yankees inch closer to the Orioles after Phillies sweep
The Bronx Bombers might be fifth in the MLB power rankings but they are just half a game behind the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East. The Yanks moved closer after securing a sweep against the Phillies.
Offensively, they are ahead of the Phillies at the top spot with 566 runs scored. Aaron Boone and his team have been on fire after Jazz Chisholm Jr. joined the squad. The Yanks are predicted to make the playoffs with ease and might battle with the Phillies again in the postseason. The Yanks will take on the Blue Jays in their next series, starting August 2.
