Japanese ace Roki Sasaki, posted by the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball, has drawn interest from multiple MLB teams, including the LA Dodgers, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants.

Sasaki, 23, is an international amateur free agent, which means teams will need to use their international pool money to secure his services.

Since being an inexpensive option, Sasaki is seen as one of the most valuable pitchers available. Over the last few years, several Japanese players have joined West Coast teams, most notably the Padres and the Dodgers.

For Sasaki, things likely won't change as former MLB star Chris Young picks a West Coast team, who is favorite to land Sasaki.

"It doesn’t really matter where you put them, but it may actually even work out better for him," Young said on MLB Network. "If he’s coming from—I’m assuming—playing in Japan, coming from a six-man rotation, this is an opportunity where you can go and know that you’ll be able to slot into the exact process you want to be part of in a winning organization.
"If you want to be with a big market team, there’s no big market team closer to Japan that’s on the level the Dodgers are on right now. I feel like it’s just a match made in heaven. People are going to be upset, I understand, if he ends up going to the Dodgers. Maybe the Giants and the Padres come into play, but it’s a huge advantage for West Coast teams."

Cliff Floyd cracks jokes for East Coast teams to start developing talent in Europe while discussing Roki Sasaki

There's no denying West Coast teams get an upper hand in blue chip free agents coming out of Japan and South Korea. Chris Young joked, asking the likes of the Yankees and Red Sox to start developing talent in Europe to get even.

"So I was thinking, yes, if I’m the Yankees or the Red Sox, we need to start developing players in London and Paris and Europe," Young said. "Let’s get that advantage going—get some guys coming from Europe to give those East Coast teams some type of advantage in landing Japanese players. Because it’s clear: none of them are close to home, right? But you want to be as close as possible."

While the East Coast has hosted several Japanese players like Ichiro Suzuki and Masahiro Tanaka, in recent times, things have changed, with the West Coast gaining an advantage.

Will Roki Sasaki join to West Coast team or break the norm and go to East Coast? Share your thoughts.
