Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees’ captain, is delivering an MVP-caliber performance this season. Together with All-Star Juan Soto, Judge has led the club to a 67-46 record, tied with the Baltimore Orioles for tops in the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Bleacher Creatures are loving Judge’s leadership, including Shane Gillis. The comedian and the “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” host shared his fan moment with the Yankees superstar in the 505th episode of the “Pepsi Country” podcast.
“Yo, I saw Aaron Judge," Gillis said (Timestamp: 1:07.08). "He's huge. He's the best, probably the best player in baseball.
“That was the most nervous I've been meeting someone I couldn't believe how star-struck (I was]). He saw me during batting practice. He was like, “What’s up? I'm coming over there.” And I was like, “ Oh, f**k, he's gonna come over here.” Then, he came over, and I was like, “How are you? It was so bad.”
The 6-foot-7 Yankee has massive power to make any ball fly over the fence. That’s why Aaron Judge has been walked intentionally 11 times this season, which is the most in the American League.
Aaron Judge's MVP season in making
Aaron Judge has been phenomenal this year. To show how good he is, here’s a list of categories in which Judge exceeds the rest of AL players in WAR (7.6), on-base percentage (.456), slugging % (.701), OPS (1.157), total bases (277), home runs (41), RBIs (103), bases on balls (92), OPS+ (219), runs created (129), adjusted batting runs (69), adjusted batting wins (6.7), extra base hits (67), times on bases (226), IBB (11), cWPA (3.1) and REW (6.4) in 111 games.
If compared to his 2022 season, he is on the road to winning his second MVP this season.
2022: Judge had a stat line of .311/.425/.686 and an OPS of 1.111, scoring 62 home runs and 131 RBIs in 157 games.
2024: Judge has a similar stat line of .322/.456/.701 and an OPS of 1.157, scoring 41 home runs and 103 RBIs in 111 games.
Similar to the 2022 season, Judge was also selected for this year’s All-Star lineup in Phase One voting. Coincidence? Let’s wait for a few more months.
