"I'd had enough" - D-backs skipper Torey Lovullo opens up on his back-and-forth with Tigers' Jack Flaherty

Torey Lovullo had a frustrating night during the Diamondbacks' game against the Tigers. Detroit secured an unassailable lead in the series with an 8-3 win. Lovullo had a brief spat with Tigers starter Jack Flaherty, leading to the pair exchanging harsh words from the opposing dugouts.

The Diamondbacks faced a tough challenge in game 1 when they were shutout in a 13-0 defeat at home. Following that, Arizona had their ace Zac Gallen start on the mound on Saturday for game 2. Everything seemed to go as per plan until the sixth innings as Gallen went scoreless. Wencel Perez's three-run triple broke the Tigers' scoring drought, leading to a six-run innings.

Jack Flaherty on the other side earned his first win of the season after three losses. The Tigers starter earned a run off a triple and then a second in the bottom of the fifth inning. That gave Arizona a two-run lead before Gallen and reliever Joe Mantiply exploded.

During the game, Flaherty and Lovullo were caught exchanging strong words with each other. According to reports, Flaherty dug deep into the mound, creating craters to suit his pitching style. Torey Lovullo, with the assistance of the ground staff, consistently filled these craters after every inning. Tempers eventually reached a boiling point.

Torey Lovullo initially chose not to speak about it in the post-game interview, before eventually voicing his frustration.

"Trust me what happened there, what you guys saw... wasn't the first thing that had happened. I can hold serve on one thing, but we felt like there was more than just the situation that popped up and I'd had enough," Torey Lovullo said.

Diamondbacks look to bounce back against Tigers at home

The Diamondbacks have had a torrid start to the season after winning the National League last year. They are currently 21-25 and sit in fourth place in the NL East standings. They would be desperate to avoid a humiliating series whitewash. The Tigers on the other hand are currently in fourth spot in the AL Central and hold a 23-22 record.

The Diamondbacks will have their marquee signing Jordan Montgomery on the mound. He is currently 2-2 with a below-par 4.76 ERA this season. He will be opposed by the Tigers' Matt Manning who has had issues himself with a 4.37 ERA and 0-1 record.
