The New York Mets ran up the score against the New York Yankees on Wednesday to the frustration of manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees lost by a 12-3 score against the Mets, conceding the Subway Series to their rivals after consecutive defeats.
Aaron Boone believes it's about time the team buckles up and starts winning games. They need to put words like 'stretch, slump, recent' behind them and focus on the next games.
"We’re pissed off in there. We got a lot of pride in there. We have a lot of expectations. Stretch, slump, recent — I don’t give a s***. We got to play better the rest of the way," Boone said.
The fans started bashing Aaron Boone for his soft approach towards the players, but now it seems Boone is ready to make the hard decisions with the team's postseason run on the line. They currently hold the second place in the American League behind the Baltimore Orioles, and Boone wishes to improve that standing before the World Series.
Aaron Boone explains his decision to choose J.D. Davis over Ben Rice
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone's decision to prioritize J.D. Davis over rookie Ben Rice for the Subway series against the Mets has sparked discussion among the analysts.
Acquired from the Oakland Athletics as a potential first base replacement for the injured Anthony Rizzo last month, Davis has shared playing time with Rice. Despite Rice's recent performance, Boone opted for the more experienced Davis in the crucial series.
In the post-game interview, Boone made his thought process clear behind the decision.
"Yeah. I mean, also want to get where you're trying to leverage situations.I think you look at Manaea too, pretty small sample, like you look at his career and it's pretty stark the other way. So you kind of peel the onion back a little bit. And is that what he's going to be moving forward? We're not trying to predict what happened yesterday," Boone said.
"We're trying to what happened moving forward. And the reality is we brought J.D. Davis into, you know, especially when Rizz went down to be this kind of- and this is a guy that recently has had a good amount of success."
Boone stated he wants to push young players as well while keeping a balance and giving every player an equal chance to shine on the field.
