It's been a mixed first season with the New York Yankees for Alex Verdugo. After being acquired by the Bronx Bombers in a trade with Boston this offseason, Verdugo quickly became a fan favorite. Thanks to his personality and clutch play, Verdugo felt like a missing piece for the Yankees at the start of the season.

The good times have been few and far between lately as the 28-year-old finds himself in an extended slump. Not to mention his game-losing gaffe in the outfield before All-Star break, adding questions about the veteran's role with the team.

While some fans and experts may feel uncertainty around Verdugo, the same cannot be said for his manager Aaron Boone. In a recent episode of Talkin' Yanks Boone shared his confidence in the outfielder, saying “I feel like he’s getting really close [10:10]."

"I feel like he is starting to find the barrel" Boone continued, expressing a level of optimism around his star. "I still maintain a lot of confidence that he is going to go on a heater at some point in this second half." the New York Yankees manager stated.

Boone's confidence in Verdugo doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon.

Alex Verdugo's struggles could impact the New York Yankees' plans for the MLB Trade Deadline

Although Aaron Boone has expressed his confidence in Verdugo, if the outfielder cannot turn things around, it could force the Yankees' plans as the MLB trade deadline approaches. There are expected to be several teams selling and it could leave Verdugo's role in question if he cannot heat up at the plate.

Aside from Verdugo's costly mistake against the Baltimore Orioles, he is a solid defensive player which could help him retain some value with the club. That being said, with outfielders who could be available before the deadline such as Luis Robert Jr., Cedric Mullins, and Brent Rooker, the Yankees could look elsewhere.
