"I was gonna say what's Jete doing at the game" - Yankees broadcasting booth loses it over Derek Jeter look-alike fan donning classic pinstripes

New York Yankees fans saw a familiar face at the Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, or so they thought. During the series opener between the Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, fans saw a Derek Jeter look-alike in the crowd.

MLB broadcasters were in disbelief after the camera panned to a Derek Jeter look-alike during the game.

"Did you see the dude in the stands with his kid?" queried one broadcaster.

"I was going to say what's Jete (Derek Jeter) doing at the game," replied the other broadcaster.

"A whole new meaning to “Derek Jeter, No. 2”

Derek Jeter is one of the most prominent names in the Yankees lore, with the former captain leading the team to five World Series titles during his iconic MLB career.

The Yankees have failed to reach the same heights since Jeter called time on his career over a decade ago. However, they will get a chance to see their beloved former captain in the flash during the 76th Old-Timers’ Day celebration later this month.

Derek Jeter will be accompanied by fellow Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera on Saturday, August 24, at the Yankee Stadium as the Bronx Bombers celebrate the 15th anniversary of their 2009 World Series triumph. Jeter's former teammate Alex Rodriguez will also make his first Old-Timer's Day appearance at the event.

Yankees squander late runs in extra-innings loss to Guardians

The Yankees lost a third consecutive game after the Guardians came from behind to win the series opener at the Yankee Stadium. The home team got off to an impressive start after Juan Soto and captain Aaron Judge's back-to-back home runs.
