"I just went to the bathroom" - When Justin Verlander's wife Kate Upton admitted to having missed two innings because of MLB’s new pitch clock

It took a bit before pitchers like Justin Verlander and others got used to the pitch clock, which was implemented in 2023. Before then, no pitcher ever had to worry about how quickly they had to work on the mound.

But it was not just the players that had to get used to the pitch clock. Fans also had to get adjusted to a new game that moved much more quickly than it did before.

One of these fans was Verlander's supermodel wife, Kate Upton. Back in April, she recalled a moment when she missed a few innings of the ballgame while she made a bathroom break, via SiriusXM.

"The pitch clock sped [the game] up so much. I'm like, 'How did I miss two innings? I just went to the bathroom.' Like, it's so much faster," said Upton.

Before the pitch clock, fans could go to the bathroom, grab a snack, and still be back before missing multiple innings. Now, fans have to move much more quickly if they do not want to miss any action.

Fans still have the two minutes in between innings that was implemented in 2019. So, if there ever were a time to get out of your seat at a game, that would be your best bet.

Kate Upton cannot hold back her nerves during a Justin Verlander start

Being the wife of a starting pitcher is a lot more different than being one of a position player or even DH. Starting pitchers pitch once every week while the others get to play nearly every single day.

That makes these starts even more nerve-wracking for some pitchers. They have to be at their best while seeing the field sparingly.

While this is a tough task for pitchers, it is a tough task for the pitchers' wives watching their starts. Kate Upton revealed the nervous energy surrounding a Justin Verlander start.

"I think pitcher wives are a little different than position player wives because position players play every single game, so they can't be as connected to every single play. I feel like there's a more nervous energy with starting pitchers' wives because it's once every five days" said Upton.

Upton believes things are more magnified for pitchers' wives than those of position players. They are much more locked into every pitch given they will only see their husband start 30 games if he is lucky.
