The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman opted for ankle surgery this Thursday, during the offseason and also shared his experience with his fans on social media. Freeman was injured on Sept. 26 during a game against the San Diego Padres when he ran on a ground ball and tried to avoid getting tagged.
The ankle surgery of Freddie Freeman involved "debridement and the removal of loose bodies," as per the information from the Dodgers Nation.
The 35-year-old player is predicted to completely recover by the spring training period next year. Despite his injury, Freeman continued to play throughout the postseason and even recorded 4 homers and 13 RBIs with a .810 OPS.
Freeman also uploaded a picture of his fracture, after undergoing the surgery, on his Instagram.
"Worth it for the ring," Freeman captioned the story.
The fans reacted to the picture, and many of them displayed their gratitude for Freeman's contribution to the team.
"I'll name my daughter Freddie Freeman," one fan stated.
"Thank you for giving us a memory we will be talking about for decades," another added.
"My first two kids are going to be named Freddie and Freeman," one fan mentioned.
"Speedy recovery!! Can't wait for your statue at Dodger stadium. Thank you, Freddie," one fan wrote.
"Dave Roberts should be giving you a piggy back everywhere you go for the next year," one fan said.
"Freddie you are a dodger legend. Please retire with us in the future and go in as a Dodger to the hall of fame," one fan remarked.
Freddie Freeman joins Shohei Ohtani in the elite club of the Los Angeles Dodgers
After playing for the Atlanta Braves for 12 years straight, many believed that Freddie Freeman must be past his prime when he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022. However, after settling in for two years in the club, Freeman showcased how he's no less than the newly joined star of the team, Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani and Freeman worked together to win their team's eighth World Series title. The champions have been put on display at Cooperstown and the biggest items on the display were Ohtani's Game 3 jersey and Freeman's Game 1 cleats.
Both of them managed to hit a combined total of 76 home runs in the 2024 season. Even other players, including Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, did wonders for their team, especially during the postseason series. Their equipment has also been included in the exhibited display.
The players themselves decided to donate these items for the display at Cooperstown.
