Trevor Bauer might be pitching in the Mexican League, but the former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher yearns a return to MLB. Bauer cleared the air around the sacrifices he's willing to make to his return to the major league feasible for teams.
Bauer shared a clip from Outkick's “Hot Mic w/ Hutton & Withrow” podcast, where hosts Chad Withrow and Jonathan Hutton discussed the lack of offers for the former Cy Young winner. Hutton pondered the 'odd' nature of the events that has led to Bauer's exile from the league:
"I don't understand why he was that successful as a major league pitcher for that long, but he is such a miserable teammate that everybody hates him so much that now he is still productive and no one can sign him. It's odd.
"It took a false allegation to get him out of the league for everyone to admit that he is such a bad teammate and we are not going to bring him back."
A fan commented on the clip shared by Bauer asking the former Dodgers pitcher if he would join a team with a six-man rotation, essentially moving him down the pecking order with less playing time.
Bauer replied that's ready to even play for a team with a seven-man rotation and occupy the mound as a reliever for the team, if required.
"I’d pitch in a 4, 5 ,6 or 7-man rotation. If it’s a 7-man rotation, I’ll pitch out of the pen too," Trevor Bauer wrote.
Trevor Bauer continues to impress in Mexican League in a bid for MLB return
Trevor Bauer has not received an offer from an MLB team despite a plethora of injuries to starting pitchers since the season started. But the former Cy Young winner continues to make his case for a return to the major leagues.
Bauer etched his name in the record books after striking out a remarkable 19 hitters in a Mexican League game last week. He's the first player to register 19 strikeouts in a Mexican League game.
The former MLB pitcher also made the news earlier last week after hitting at a potential lawsuit against the league.
“I’d really prefer not to go this route, but if I continue being kept out of baseball as I currently am I may have no other choice,” he said in a post to X.
“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that, and I’m allowed to return to my career that was taken from me over provably false allegations that never held any merit to begin with.”
Trevor Bauer has been out of MLB action for almost three years, last pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021. Two-time World Series winner David Wells has batted for Bauer's return, urging teams to give the former MLB pitcher a "second chance."
