Alex Rodriguez was an enigma on the baseball field. He turned heads every time he took the field with his impressive glove and the elite amount of power he had with a bat in his hands.

However, he would admit in 2009 that he used performance-enhancing drugs. He stated he used PEDs from 2001-2003 which let down a ton of fans.

His decision to take PEDs is something that has haunted him for quite some time. In a 2017 interview with Joe Buck on Undeniable, the slugger explained how much his decision hurt him, via USA Today.:

"I remember sitting there at night at maybe 4 or 5 in the morning -- I probably did this a hundred nights -- and I would look up with tears and say, 'How the 'F' did I get myself in this position?'"

Not only did he let himself down, he also let his teammates and the die-hard fans down. It was a decision that kept him up at night repeatedly:

"This thing cost me over $40 million. And it cost me my reputation, and it may have cost me the Hall of Fame and a number of other things."

His decision to take PEDs also cost him a ton of money and a chance at making it into the Hall of Fame. He sits alongside players like Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGwire, who have been blacklisted from the Hall.

Alex Rodriguez and his daughters, Natasha and Ella are very close. Throughout his career, you would often see both of them accompanying their father to his games.

Being so close to his daughters, he did not want to feel like he let them down. A-Rod stated that telling his daughters was one of the hardest things to do during this whole experience:

"The hardest thing I had to do, I had to admit to Natasha and Ella the mistake that I made."

When explaining to his daughters the mistake that he had made, he broke down.

Rodriguez's mistake is one that he will have to live with for the rest of his life. It has certainly impacted his reputation as one of the best hitters in MLB history.
