Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo talked about Corbin Carroll's impressive performances of late. The 24-year-old has been in fine form for the D-backs in 2024, showcasing his powerful hitting and lightning-fast speed between the bases.
Speaking to MLB Network, Lovullo talked about how he's been enjoying Carroll's success this season. He said:
"[He's] Just not missing the pitch that he's looking for. Early in the year he was just hyper-aware of how he was getting worked. He was just a go-swinger. Right from the first minute his left foot landed in the box, and his right foot went in there and his arms went up to get into a hitting position, he was in swing mode."
"He still is in swing mode, I think everybody has to be in swing mode and they decide when not to swing. But, he's ready to attack the pitch he's looking for, and it's not covering every square inch of the strike zone."
"He's just zeroed in on one area, it's there, he's not missing it. It's been a really fun run for him. His OPS is well over .900 over the past month, it's well deserved. He's been grinding, and I love the success Corbin Carroll is having right now."
The 2023 season was Corbin's debut season in the major leagues, and the youngster made a fast start to life, winning the NL Rookie of the Year award and getting an All-Star nod.
After a slow start to the 2024 season, there were concerns about Carroll being a "one-season wonder." However, the center fielder has stepped up his production off late and is showing the kind of form that helped him achieve an impressive rookie season.
Since the beginning of August, Corbin has been hitting at .257, with six home runs, 13 RBIs and 24 runs. All this is currently even more important for his side with talisman Ketel Marte out of action due to an ankle injury.
