After nursing his fractured left hand for almost two months, Mookie Betts returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup and immediately sparked excitement on the field. Betts, who was at the plate without needing any rehab assignments, swung for the stands in just his second plate appearance against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.
Betts took Freddy Peralta deep for a two-run home run in the third before driving in one more in the seventh, helping his team take down the Brewers 5-2 on the road. After the game, Betts said he was excited to be on this road trip and contribute to the win:
"I felt great. It felt great You know, I miss my family at home, but I'm glad I'm out here helping Dodger Nation," Betts said in a post-game interaction. "It's just good to come to work. You know, these guys welcomed me with open arms, obviously, and it's just it's just fun to play baseball."
Mookie Betts also added on how he felt hitting behind Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani:
"Well, he's definitely gonna be in scoring position now," Betts added. "I just got to do my part, but it felt good knowing that I can help put a point across there and I got a front row seat to watch Teo."
Perfect Dodgers baseball night says returning Mookie Betts
For Mookie Betts, Monday's return game against the Brewers could not have been any better.
Future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw took the mound, striking out six in 5.2 innings. Kershaw left the mound in the sixth, leaving a runner on second who was brought home by a William Contreras home run in the same inning against Joe Kelly. However, that was the only scoring drive from the Brewers, as relievers kept things intact for the Dodgers.
On the hitting front as well, Betts and Ohtani homered in the win. This all culminated in Betts saying:
"Yes, sir. That's Dodger baseball right there. Today was definitely Dodger baseball."
The four-game Dodgers-Brewers series continues at American Family Field on Tuesday.
