There is no denying that Elly De La Cruz is one of the most exciting young talents in the MLB. The Cincinnati Reds shortstop brings a level of explosiveness and dynamic play to every game that simply makes him must-watch television. The infielder's combination of speed and power has made him one of the top players in the MLB.

On the field, there is seeming nothing that Elly De La Cruz cannot do. However, his personality off the field has questionably made him a bigger star. The 22-year-old from Sabana Grande de Boyá, Dominican Republic, has made a number of fans across the MLB thanks to his playful attitude.
After finding out that he was selected to the first All-Star team of his career, De La Cruz did not lose that charming personality. In a recent press conference, the superstar told the media that he was learning yet another language to utilize during All-Star weekend.

"I'm learning Japanese to talk to Shohei," he said. "I don't know if I'm going to learn it, but I'm trying," he continued to explain to reporters. It remains to be seen if he was just joking or if he was actually joking around, either way, if anyone would learn Japanese for the All-Star, Elly De La Cruz would be it.
This is not Elly De La Cruz's first viral moment involving languages this season
De La Cruz is seemingly passionate about different languages and others around him developing their linguistic talent. Earlier this season, the young infielder went viral for listening in on his Cincinnati Reds teammate Alexis Diaz's English.
After the Reds picked up a victory over the New York Yankees, De La Cruz interrupted the broadcast's interview with Alexis Diaz. Not only did De La Cruz say that he wanted to see how the All-Star pitcher's English has progressed, but even took over the interview, asking Diaz about his showdown with Yankees star Juan Soto.
Given the fact that De La Cruz was curious about his teammate's English progression, it is believable that he could actually be learning Japanese to speak to Shohei Ohtani. Eyes will be on the two stars during the All-Star festivities.
