David Ortiz was one of the many players who were on the 2003 list of alleged PED users that was seized by the federal government. It was a huge hit to the game as a whole, and to all the players and teams that were involved.

Outside of Ortiz, some of the other big names included Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon, Roger Clemens, and Sammy Sosa. However, Ortiz was adamant he had never taken steroids.

Late into the 2009 season, Ortiz spoke about his careless behavior taking legal supplements and vitamins throughout his career. He believes this is what caused him to test positive, via ESPN.

"I defintely was a little bit careless back in those days when I was buying legal supplements and vitamins over the counter - legal supplements, legal vitamins over the counter - but I never buy steroids or use steroids," Ortiz said.

Ortiz wanted to get the story straight. The list had some legitimacy concerns, and there were some players who tested positive while taking legal supplements.

"I never thought that buying supplements and vitamins, it was going to hurt anybody's feelings," Ortiz said.

Being the star that he was for the Boston Red Sox, David Ortiz knew he had become a distraction. They were coming off a World Series title two seasons ago and a postseason appearance in 2008.

Ortiz was quick to apologize to his team and his manager, Terry Francona. He wanted his club to return their attention to the upcoming postseason.

"I want to apologize to [the] fans for the distraction, my teammates, [and] our manager. This past week has been a nightmare to me" Ortiz said.

Boston was matched up against the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS. Unfortunately, they would have a tough time getting anything rolling against the Halos.

Game 1 and 2 were largely controlled by the Angels' pitching staff. John Lackey went 7 1/3 scoreless innings in Game 1 while Jered Weaver threw 7 1/3 innings, giving up one run in Game 2.

Boston would get the lead in Game 3, but a late rally by the Halos would decide this one. The Angels would sweep the Red Sox 3-0 and be matched up against the New York Yankees in the ALCS where they would lose 4-2.
