Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Christian Yelich made a shock announcement in a video message on Thursday evening. He will be undergoing a season-ending back surgery on Friday, he told everyone in the video.
The decision came as a last resort after Yelich spent last three weeks in a bid to get a little better for the Brewers push for another division title in 2024.
In the video, Christian Yelich said:
"It just got to the point where it wasn’t getting better. I tried everything I could. I ran out of options and it came time to make a decision."
At which point the interviewer asks him about the decision and schedule of the surgery to which Yelich replies:
"Yea, for Friday. This was the best option that we had left. It sucks. There’s really no other way to put it other than it sucks. It’s terrible. But it’s part of sports. These things happen. You get hurt, you get fixed and you get back out there."

In an official announcement on the Brewers official X account, they posted the same news release by Christian Yelich.
The current campaign was one of Yelich's finest since 2018–19 until the back injury halted the progressive year. In the 2018-19 season, he finished in the top two of the NL MVP Award voting and won back-to-back NL hitting crowns.
After producing an impressive offensive statline with a .315 batting average, 11 home runs, 42 RBIs, and a .909 OPS this season, he earned the third All-Star nod of his MLB career.
Christian Yelich voiced praise on his teammates
Christian Yelich is firm in his decision to stay with the team after his back surgery on Friday and help younger players like Jackson Chourio and other Brewers teammates. Yelich showered praise on his teammates, saying:
"It’s a great group of guys, and they’re playing extremely well. I’m happy to watch them and see what they’re going to do. Hopefully they can win the division, get into the playoffs, and then once you’re in the postseason, it’s like, who knows what’s going to happen? You get hot and it could be a cool run. I’m excited for them."
Christian Yelich will likely play next in the 2025 season for the Brewers, as he hopes for quick rehab from his back surgery due Friday.
