Freddie Freeman opened up about his ankle injury after leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to within two games from winning the World Series. The Dodgers protected their home turf on Saturday to take a 2-0 lead before the series shifts to the Big Apple.
One of the biggest talking points of not only the World Series but the entire postseason has been Freddie Freeman's ankle injury. After their 4-2 victory in Game 2, Freeman spoke to Alex Rodriguez on the FOX panel to discuss his injury and how he's nursing it during the Dodgers' postseason run.
"Those 6 days off were huge for me in between the NLCS and the World Series. I was able to calm my ankle down," Freeman said. "I have been swelling a lot on flights," he added in an interview with FOX Sports.
The star first baseman shared that the six days off between the NL championship series and the Fall Classic helper lower the swelling of his right ankle.
Ahead of the switch of the series to New York, Freeman also revealed that his ankle has been swelling worse in flights. It's a normal reaction, as the fluids in the body are forced down by gravity, which makes ankles swell more than usual when flying on an airplane.
Freddie Freeman suffered the ankle injury in the final regular season series against the Colorado Rockies a month ago. He has since limped his way through the NLDS and NLCS that included some bumps where he was visibly shaken.
With Shohei Ohtani projected to miss at least one game, it will be interesting to see how the Dodgers manage their injury situation heading into Game 3.
Freddie Freeman hauls more records in Game 2
As if his record-making walk-off grand slam on Friday wasn't enough, Freddie Freeman once again made history in Game 2 of the World Series.
The star baseman hit his fourth consecutive World Series home run in the game. It's the second-best streak in World Series history, along with Lou Gehrig and Reggie Jackson, and just trailing George Springer, who had five consecutive games.
Freeman started the streak during the last World Series he appeared in 2021. In the Braves' Game 5 loss to the Astros, Freeman hit a home run off lefty Framber Valdez. On Saturday, he hit one against Yankee lefty Carlos Rodon to extend his streak.
Freeman also became the second player to have multiple home runs and a triple in their first two games of the Fall Classic, emulating Babe Ruth in 1923.
