The Chicago Cubs made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason so far by landing Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros.
The superstar outfielder has been one of the most sought-after names on the trade market and even though he was linked to a number of different clubs, the Cubs ended up winning the sweepstakes.
The Cubs sent slugger Isaac Paredes, pitcher Hayden Wesneski, and top prospect Cam Smith to the Houston Astros in order to secure the three-time All-Star.
While the Astros would have prefered to keep Tucker in house, the outfielder is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025 campaign and is likely to seek a massive contract.
In an interview with "Marquee Sports Network," Tucker explained that the life of a professional athlete can be unpredictable at times, especially on the business side. That being said, the former World Series champion explained his optimism around his move to Chicago.
"I don't think I could have gone to a much better organization than the Cubs. I'm excited to start playing in front of the fans and in the city and everything else. Alot of things in life and in sports, kind of, is what it is, stuff happens. Some stuff is out of your control but you've got to make the most of it," Tucker explained.
After spending his entire MLB career with the Houston Astros, Tucker now opens a new chapter with the Chicago Cubs. At only 27 years old, being traded by a team could be taken as a slight against him, but Tucker explained that he has no ill will towards the Astros or his former teammates.
"I'm still real close with everyone Astros. It's not like we're all enemies now or I hate everyone over there. No, that's not it. Obviously whenever we play against them I would prefer to win but at the end of the day I'm still close with alot of those guys," Tucker said of his Houston relationships.
It will be interesting to see how Kyle Tucker adjusts to life in Chicago. As one of the elite outfielders in the majors, Tucker will now lead a Cubs unit looking to return to the postseason for the first time since 2020. The outfielder posted a .289 batting average with 23 home runs and a .993 OPS last season.
The acquisition of Kyle Tucker opens the door for further moves for the Chicago Cubs
Not only does the acquisition help the Chicago Cubs upgrade their lineup by bringing Tucker into the fold, but it could allow them some further flexibilty to pursue other moves this offseason. One of the names most often mentioned in trade rumors is Cody Bellinger, and now with Tucker in the lineup, things could really start heating up.
The New York Yankees have been the club most heavily linked to Bellinger on the trade market after being linked to Tucker earlier this offseason. It will be interesting to see how the offseason plays out for the Cubs, however, it's clear that this is Kyle Tucker's team now.
