Paul Skenes has turned a lot of heads towards him this season. This is a dream come true for the fans to see Skenes pitch against the top batters in the league. However, Trevor Plouffe isn't very excited to see Skenes face Aaron Judge.
Plouffe believes that Paul Skenes against Gunnar Henderson or Juan Soto is much more enticing than the pitcher against Aaron Judge. This baffled his co-host, Chris Rose, and to make his stance clear, Plouffe answered.
"I think Skenes is going to blow it by Judge when he faces him," Plouffe said.
Rose stated that he is among the very small percentage who think like that, and Trevor Plouffe instantly changed his statement.
"You know what? I should take that back. I think it's either Gunner or Soto. I'd rather watch Skenes-Soto than Skenes-Judge. Juan Soto is a better bat-to-ball guy. A better at-bat," Plouffe added.
The 22-year-old is the fifth rookie pitcher to start the MLB All-Star game and the first in the past 30 years. As of now, he boasts a record of 6-0 with only 1.90 ERA in his first 11 starts. So, he's definitely been grabbing a lot of eyeballs because of his stellar performance.
Paul Skenes receives high praise from Aaron Judge
New York Yankees star Aaron Judge offered a nuanced perspective on Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Paul Skenes. While Skenes' triple-digit fastball has garnered widespread attention, Judge believes his overall pitching is driving his early success.
"Gotten a chance to watch a couple of his games the past couple weeks since he got called up, and it’s special stuff, man. Electric stuff. You can talk about the velocity of his pitches and what he does, but the guy’s a pitcher, man. He can work all three, four, five of his pitches. Throw it to every part of the zone any count. He’s a complete pitcher," Judge said.
Judge also believes that facing him in the All-Star game would be quite fun, and he also respects his achievement of being the starter despite being the rookie pitcher. Skenes is just at the initial stage of his career, if everything goes well, he might feature in many All-Star games in the coming future.
Moreover, Judge also wants to see him in future All-Star games, as he predicts him becoming one of the best pitchers of the game for a long time ahead.
