In a recent episode of the popular podcast "Dodgers Territory," manager Dave Roberts explained that while his job exposes him to criticism, his priority is to get the best out of his team. Since their spending spree over the winter, the Los Angeles Dodgers have regularly made headlines for innumerable reasons.
However, Roberts understands that with the advent of social media over the past few decades, it has become a part of the job and explained how he manages to cope with the demands:
"I try not to give these trolls more power than they think they already have. But it's out there, it's real and you've got to sort of manage it."
Dave Roberts is a former MLB outfielder who represented several major league teams during his decade-long career as a player. After retiring as a player in 2008, he started his coaching career with the San Diego Padres in 2011 and was appointed their manager in 2015.
He went on to join the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016 and has taken them to the playoffs every year since while winning the World Series in 2020.
Roberts has been a part of the major leagues for over two decades now and never before did social media play such a big role in the game. Hence, while he acknowledges its impact on the game today, Roberts believes in keeping healthy from social media to do his job efficiently.
Dave Roberts hints at possible changes to Dodgers roster ahead of trade deadline
Speaking to the media ahead of their series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts hinted at some moves ahead of the trade deadline. Speaking to Fredo Cervantes of The Sporting Tribune, he said:
"Organization is always looking to upgrade... Every night that these guys are getting opportunities, they have the chance to make an impression."
The Dodgers are 20-17 in their last 37 games with a host of their pitchers out of action due to injury. While several youngsters have been given a chance to step up and make an impression, there are rumors of the team adding a starting pitcher before the trade deadline. It remains to be seen if they will make a move for an arm with proven MLB experience.
