Throughout his career, Alex Rodriguez was met with multiple allegations that he had used performance-enhancing drugs. While he mainly denied these allegations early on, he fell to the pressure during the 2009 offseason.

in February, A-Rod admitted to using PEDs during a three-year period beginning in 2001. This is when he was a member of the Texas Rangers and the 2001 season was the first time he played in all 162 regular-season games.

Rodriguez admitted to using PEDs in an exclusive interview with ESPN's Peter Gammons. In it, he revealed that he turned to drugs after feeling tons of pressure to perform at a high level daily.

"When I arrived in Texas in 2001, I felt an enormous amount of pressure. I felt like I had all the weight of the world on top of me, and I needed to perform, and perform at a high level every day," said Rodriguez.

A-Rod did not want to let his teammates, the front office or the fanbase down. So, he decided to take an illegal substance, and that was a decision that he would have to live with for the rest of his life. When asked what he would tell his daughters when they got older, he was nothing but honest.

"I was stuppid for three years. I was very, very stupid.. I've made more mistakes than anyone, and for that I'm very sorry," said A-Rod.

Alex Rodriguez knew he made a mistake and one that could end up hurting other people's lives. As a star in the MLB, he was in an influential position where younger athletes looked up to him.

He did not want these kids to make the same mistake that he did. He wanted them to never doubt themselves, and work hard.

"You know, work hard. What you have is enough. You know, believe in yourself. Don't make the same mistakes that I made," said A-Rod.

A-Rod's PED controversy, which included a suspension for the entire 2014 season, has been something that has stuck with him throughout his career and after his retirement. It could be a reason that keeps him out of the Hall of Fame alongside some other greats who used PEDs.

It will be interesting to see how HOF voters respond to him on the ballot with players like Ichiro Suzuki and Billy Wagner.
