Los Angeles Dodgers rookie pitcher Bobby Miller registered his second win of the season as the NL West leaders defeated a spirited Baltimore Orioles 6-3 to claim the series win.
Miller registered his first win since March 29 in a dominant showing from the mound. However, it wasn't exactly an unblemished outing for the young Dodgers pitcher. He was taken for a three-run homer by Orioles rookie Colton Cowser in his fifth and final inning.
The 25-year-old has been nursing a knee injury in his left leg and reflected on how it affected his game on Thursday.
"Just the left knee, something I have been dealing for a while," Miller said on his injury. "I have pitched through this plenty of times so no worries about that," Miller reassured.
Although Bobby Miller was solid for the majority of his outing, he rued conceding a three-run homer in the fifth inning which damaged his scoreless game.
“It was 4 2/3 of really good pitching and then just one bad pitch. Seems to be the story of my last few outings. It’s just one bad pitch that I look back on, and unfortunately, it’s over the fence. But you know, one day, one day soon, it’ll fall.”
Blake Treinen backs Bobby Miller's solid start with clutch save
While Bobby Miller did his job, the Dodgers bullpen ran into trouble after reliever Daniel Hudson loaded the bases for the Orioles by allowing back-to-back walks in the seventh.
Just when it looked like Baltimore would cut into the Dodgers' 5-3 lead, Blake Treinen came up clutch to fan Gunnar Henderson and retain the lead for his team.
“I really just want to be the best in baseball at whatever my [role] is,” Treinen said. “Whatever the role in the bullpen. I just want to be the best at what I do.”
A strong scoreless performance from the Dodgers bullpen bodes well for the NL West leaders, especially with division rivals Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres losing on the night. Los Angeles ended its nine-game homestead with a 7-2 record. They travel next to Arizona for a four-game series against the Snakes.
