Ichiro Suzuki had a fantastic career in the MLB. The slugger played 19 seasons, mainly with the Seattle Mariners where he did nothing but turn heads with his play and personality.
Just days ago, it was announced that he, CC Sabathia, and Billy Wagner would be enshrined in MLB's Hall of Fame. Each player received the necessary 75% threshold, with Ichiro nearly going unanimous.
Ichiro received 393 of the 394 votes, with one writer leaving him off their ballot. That lone writer caught the attention of Suzuki who has given him a lucrative offer to better understand why he was lost off their ballot.
"I was able to receive many votes from the writers and I'm grateful for them, but there is one writer that I wasn't able to get a vote from. I would like to invite him over to my house and we'll have a drink together and we'll have a good chat" said Suzuki through his interpreter.
Much of the baseball community agrees that this was a mistake. He certainly played up to a Hall of Fame caliber throughout his career and is a fantastic ambassador for the sport.
Mariners set to retire Ichiro Suzuki's No. 51
Ichiro Suzuki wore the No. 51 when he was playing in Japan. When he came to the United States, he told the Mariners front office he did not have a uniform number preference, but they gave him 51 anyway.
Now, nobody in the Mariners' organization will wear that number again. Seattle is set to retire the number in August as part of Ichiro Hall of Fame Weekend. Ichiro will join Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez who also had their Seattle jersey numbers retired.
