Former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer might not be a part of the major leagues right now but the ex-Dodger is drawing the attention of baseball fans with his opinions. Bauer caught traction after sharing his bold take on baseball players being role models for kids.
Trevor Bauer claimed baseball players are there to entertain and it is not their responsibility to be role models to children, rather it is their parent's job to educate them.
"Baseball players are there to entertain. Parents are there to be role models and educate their children on what to look up to and what not to look up to. The notion that it’s my responsibility to educate everyone else’s children is absurd," Bauer wrote in his tweet.
A fan contradicted Bauer's opinion, arguing that MLB legends can make an impact outside the ballpark as well by inspiring people. In response, the former Cy Young winner drew a comparison between MLB icons Derek Jeter and David Ortiz to make his point.
"The idea that athletes should be role models is flawed. Jeter was Jeter. He did things a certain way. Some good, some bad. Just like every other person. But the idea that he was more of a role model than David Ortiz, for example, is flawed."
Bauer, who is currently pitching for the Diablos Rojos del México in the Mexican league, believes that it is 'impossible' for a player to be a role model for everyone because every person has their own perspective.
"The point is, a person behaves as a person behaves. And they are role models for certain behaviors and not for others. One person cannot be a role model for every other person because not everyone on earth agrees on a universal set of positive and negative character traits and behavior. It’s impossible. So the whole premise is flawed."
Trevor Bauer's rumored MLB return with the Houston Astros disbanded
Despite Trevor Bauer's controversial past, MLB fans are urging teams to sign the talented pitcher as they believe the former Cy Young winner can still do good for any big market team in the league.
The Houston Astros reportedly watched Bauer pitch in the Mexican League and were rumored to be interested in the veteran pitcher amid their pitching crisis. However, the rumors were disbanded earlier this week as Trevor Bauer continues his wait for his MLB return.
