The San Francisco Giants won three World Series titles from 2010 until 2014. However, since, 2015, they've mustered only two postseason appearances in the highly-competitive National League West.

In a recent interview with "MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM," insider Jim Bowden criticized the team's front office for inactivity this offseason. The MLB analyst feels that the Giants' sole signing, Willy Adames, wasn't enough.

"If Willy Adames is your only move, you're out of the conversation," said Bowden. (0:23-0:26)

Willy Adames signed a seven-year, $182 million deal to transfer to the Bay after posting a .251/.331/.432 slash with 32 home runs and 112 RBIs in Milwaukee last year.

The pundit then implored the team's management to get the remaining names in the free agency market such as hurler Jack Flaherty and star slugger Pete Alonso.

"Go get [Jack] Flaherty and Pete Alonso and call it a winter. That's what they need to do in San Francisco." (0:01-0:06)

The insider questioned the tactics employed by the team's owners. Bowden even brought up the topic of former Giants executive Farhan Zaidi's sacking after years of disappointing results.

"The team just went through the weeding issue with Farhan [Zaidi]. They didn't like the results and they canned him but it's not much different right now. They should have been signing more players. Their roster is just not good enough."

San Francisco Giants' conservative approach to free agency

The San Francisco Giants have created a name for themselves around the league as an organization which develops players rather than making big signings to cover their bases.

Since the conclusion of the 2023 campaign, the team has acquired six players via trade or free agency. This includes names such as Robbie Ray who was traded to the team for Mitch Haniger and Anthony DeSclafani.

The team also signed multiple-time Gold Glover Matt Chapman and KBO star Junghoo Lee. This year, the team handed out the biggest contract in franchise history to sign Willy Adames.

However, the same conservative tactics had them lose Cy Young winner Blake Snell who signed with NL West rivals and current world champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The team also lost the race to sign the other available Cy Young winner, Corbin Burnes, who signed for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
