After opening their series with a 10-9 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers began the second game of the series at Chase Field. The Saturday night game started with a stellar outing from the top of the Dodgers' lineup.
In the first inning, leadoff batter Shohei Ohtani hit a 420-foot homer off the D-backs pitcher Merrill Kelly. Mookie Betts followed with a 400-foot home run, extending their lead to 2-0. Shortly after, Freddie Freeman blasted a 437-foot moonshot, scoring another run.

Dodgers fans were overjoyed with their top-order batters giving the team such a head start and shared their reactions on X/Twitter.
"Imagine being a pitcher on any other team. LOL," a fan said.
"This trio is crazy," another fan said.
“What a top of the order!! So awesome!” another fan wrote.
Several other reactions continued with some lauding Shohei Ohtani, who is on pace for 50 homers and 50 stolen bases.

So far in the 2024 season, Shohei Ohtani has hit 44 homers, 43 stolen bases and 98 RBIs with a .294 batting average and .999 OPS.
Dodgers offense showcased stellar performance in 8-6 victory against the D-backs
After Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a three-run lead in the first inning, the Arizona Diamondbacks' offense countered by scoring four runs.
In the second inning, Ohtani hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Max Muncy to score. Freddie Freeman followed with an RBI single that gave the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. Diamondbacks’ Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a 387-foot homer in the third inning, tying the score.
Max Muncy hit an RBI single in the fifth inning, making the score 6-5. The D-backs tied the score again on Corbin Carroll’s sacrifice fly. Tommy Edman’s go-ahead two-run single set the final score of the game, leading the Dodgers to an 8-6 victory against the Diamondbacks.
The Los Angeles Dodgers (81-54) have a .600 winning percentage and are leading the NL West, followed by the Arizona Diamondbacks (76-59) with a .563 percentage. Both teams will face each other again in the third game of their four-game series on Sunday.
