Less than a day after there were concerns about Shohei Ohtani's availability for Game 3 of the World Series, the Dodgers seem to have received some positive updates.
Ohtani had injured his left shoulder on Saturday after an awkward slide in while attempting to steal a base.
As per Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Ohtani had suffered a partial dislocation. He couldn't speculate on the extent of his injury after the game but was hopeful as the Japanese superstar was able to move his arm without much trouble.
"The strength was great. The range of motion good, so we’re encouraged. But obviously I can’t speculate because (he didn't) get the scans yet. So once we have the scans, we’ll know more. But again, with the strength, the range of motion good, that’s certainly a positive," Roberts had said.
Currently, the update from the Dodgers camp is that Ohtani will feature in Game 3 at the Yankee Stadium. As per MLB insider Karl Ravech, Roberts spoke to him and confirmed this news. He also stated that the 30-year-old was in a good space.
Shohei Ohtani's presence crucial to the Dodgers lineup
Even though Shohei Ohtani has hit 1-for-8 in the two games so far against the Yankees, he remains a key figure. His sole hit, a double in Game 1 that he turned into a triple on an error, was important for the Dodgers. Betts scored Ohtani on a sacrifice fly that resulted in the game getting tied at 2-2.
Again in the tenth inning, with the Dodgers trailing 3-2, New York manager Aaron Boone decided to bring on Nestor Cortes Jr. to face Ohtani. This was due to the slugger not having a good record against the left-handed pitcher.
Even though Shohei missed out, Freddie Freeman was able to slot Cortes' fastball out of the park for the walk-off home run.
Ohtani has compiled 23 total bases on 13 hits in the postseason so far, which includes three home runs. This goes with his record-shattering 50-50 regular season where he ended up with 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases. He and Los Angeles are two games away from winning the World Series.
