Houston Astros ace Lance McCullers Jr. continues to recover from his flexor tendon repair surgery that he underwent a year ago. While he strives to get back this season, he enjoyed some time off during the All-Star break.

McCullers and his wife Kara, along with their two daughters, Ava Rae McCullers and less than six-month-old Isla Graye McCullers, enjoyed a trip to California. Kara shared images from the family's trip, mostly from their time at Laguna Beach.

"Golden state of mind 🌞😎 All-star break ✔️," Kara wrote in the caption.

Lance McCullers and Kara know each other from their high school days when they were 16 and 17, respectively. The duo met each other through mutual friends, and since then, they have been going strong.

Lance McCullers Jr. and Kara extend their family to "four"

The couple tied the knot in December 2015 and welcomed their first daughter, Ava, in December 2019. Earlier in January, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Isla Graye McCullers.

"And then there were 4 🥹 Rang in the new year in our newborn bubble 🫧 Welcome to the world, Isla Graye McCullers 🥰," Kara wrote in her caption.

Lance McCullers Jr.'s injury recovery hits a setback

It was in the 2022 MLB World Series when the Houston Astros' ace last pitched. The following year, he underwent surgery, and while the expectation was that he would return to the mound around this time, his recovery has hit another halt as per the latest report.

According to Astros general manager Dana Brown, Lance McCullers is being shut down from his rehab program after receiving a second opinion on his injury. Brown suggested that the club isn't rushing his rehab and will allow him to heal. However, the GM was hopeful that McCullers could contribute out of the bullpen in September.

It is a disappointing update for the team (51-46), which had a dismal start to the season but has recovered well in the last few months to take the AL West lead over the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers. However, this is still a well-contested season, and the Astros will need to get on a roll to build up the difference and retain the spot in the postseason.
