Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran is coming off an impressive season that saw him named to his first All-Star Game, where he also won the MVP. Duran had the most plate appearances in the majors (735), which he used to the fullest, hitting an AL-leading 14 triples, 48 doubles, 24 home runs and 75 RBIs while posting a .285/.342/.492 slash line.

Duran wants to use the offseason to carry his 2024 form into 2025. To do so, he is regularly hitting the gym to increase his fitness, which in turn will help him stay healthy for most of the 2025 season.

On Friday, the "Big Swole" shared photos from his latest gym session. He wore a camo-style sleeveless shirt as he performed weight training, side dumbbell exercises and biceps and triceps workouts.

Jarren Duran opens up on his training, advice hitters to know their intrinsic quality

There are several types of sluggers: one who can crush the ball at will but isn't great on the basepaths, and another who doesn't regularly hit home runs but excels in baserunning. Some focus on both aspects.

Earlier this month, Duran appeared on the "Bat Boys" podcast, where he discussed the evolution of hitters such as Bryce Harper, who used to combine power and speed in the early stages of his career.

"It's like he hit like 40 homers a year — he doesn't have to run the bases," Duran said (8:50 onwards). "You’ve got to see too that the games get long, and they’re playing a lot of games. Their bodies probably get tired a little bit, so they’re like, ‘Do I need to steal 20ish bags, or can I just hit 20 more home runs and drive myself in?’"
"So, they probably went for the option to drive themselves in 20 more times, which isn’t a bad thing. They just know themselves, which is really important."

Duran emphasized that hitting 40 or 50 home runs isn't his goal because he’s not that type of hitter. Instead, he relies on strong hits that can result in doubles and triples.

"I’m not a home run guy. I’ll run into some baseballs, but I’m not going to go out there and hit 40 or 50 homers," he said. "I’m going to have to rely on singles, doublesdand stretching those into doubles or triples. So again, the most important thing for me is just staying strong and staying fast."

Duran, who has been in the league since 2021, is aiming for another big season in 2025 and hopes to help the Boston Red Sox clinch a postseason spot.
