David Ortiz has had a rough go of it since retiring from the MLB. The former designated hitter had a gunshot injury and was nearly dead. He's had other issues, and is now being extorted. As if things couldn't get worse for Ortiz, all his information is currently at risk.

Boston Strong on Twitter, or X as it is currently known, reported that Ortiz is having serious issues right now:

"David Ortiz just announced on Instagram that he’s dealing with extortion from some people that hacked his phone and they’re trying to sell info about his personal life, they already found a way into his bank account. He’s already working with the FBI, DEA and the DR Police."

Per their report, some people have hacked into the former Boston Red Sox legend's phone. They're gaining access to his private information, including bank information and more.

They've asked for money to stop, which is classic extortion. Their alternative is to sell the information to the public, which isn't good for David Ortiz, either. He has no clear path forward, so he's enlisting help.

Currently, the FBI and DEA are involved, as well as the Dominican Republic police department. It's all hands on deck to find out who is doing this to Ortiz and why they're doing it. Ultimately, the goal is to get them to stop and secure the information, though.

David Ortiz has dealt with extortion before

Unfortunately, when you're a star athlete or a celebrity of any kind, especially one with money, people come out of the woodwork to try and get that money. That's happening now to David Ortiz.

Sadly, it's not the first time it has happened, either. Per Dominican Today, Ortiz was the victim of another extortion scheme in 2019:

“[Felix] Paulino videotaped Ortiz chatting with several women. Although the video allegedly showed Ortiz doing nothing more than flirting with the women, Paulino telephoned Ortiz’s agent, Fernando Cuza, and threatened to sell the recording to the celebrity gossip site TMZ, unless Ortiz paid him $20,000.”

He successfully avoided major harm in that case, and he will try to replicate the success this time.
